If your 2012 Tacoma VSC light comes on and code C1290 ( Abnormal Zero point of Steering Angle Sensor) is stored in the computer, then you will need to re-calibrate the system. This is usually needed after an accident or suspension parts replace like a lift kit were installed. The easiest method is to use the Toyota Factory level TechStream scan-tool to zero point calibrate the system. Go into chassis then ABS, find the Utility tab and perform the Signal Check. Keep the vehicle stationary for 5 seconds and check that the slip indicator lights blinks rapidly. You can also perform this using the manual method. With the ignition switch off, the steering wheel level and straight ahead position and while in park, take a jumper-wire and connect pins 12 and 4 of DLC3. Now turn the ignition switch on, keep the vehicle stationary for 5 seconds and check that the slip indicator lights blinks rapidly.
