2006 Tacoma with code P2440 Secondary Air Switching Valve Stuck Open

    If you are dealing with a P2440 Secondary Air Switching System Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 1 on your Toyota Tacoma, then this may help. Here is a video on this concern and is started on video 3 of 5 due to the nature of the repair. Fast forward to the 3:20 mark to see some actual work...


    In this case, the customer opted to replace the air pump and switching valve with the new updated parts because of the high mileage and desire to keep the truck for many more years. The area of concern is marked below..

    The first thing we do is to remove the air intake so we can remove the air switching pump to valve hose...

    Now if we peer into the switching valve we can see some debris that can attribute to the demise of this system...

    We can first start by replacing the air pump itself. It will come with a new bracket but it can be replaced by replacing the pump from the three rubber pads...

    Now we can start on the air switching valve. In this case, Toyota updated the parts with a new valve that also required a new metal air tube. This required us to remove the exhaust manifold shield in order to get to the tube bolts...

    There are four 12mm bolts that hold the exhaust shield on...

    With the exhaust shield removed we will now see this...

    Now we can remove the four nuts on the tube and the two on the valve....
