If you have a leaking or noisy waterpump on your 2006-2102 Toyota Rav4 with the 2GR-FE engine then replacing it may be needed. This may help you....

The above video is listed so as to help you see some actual steps. In the video. the pump is taken out of the bottom while this will show it being replaced from the top. Either way is fine and whatever is easier.

After remove the above two engine/radiator covers, you will want to remove the front motor mount...

This bracket is actually two pieces...

You will then want to remove the lower bracket with one 10mm bolt and the rest 14mm bolts....

We can now go through the bottom and take off the drive belt. Use a 14mm ratchet and a pocket screwdriver to hole the tensioner back....

Here is the belt routing for later...

Now go ahead and take off the first of two idler pulleys (14mm)....

and remove the three 17mm nuts from the front motor mount....

and the three 14mm bolts from the other motor mount facing the radiator....

Now lets go back up top and remove the thermostat neck and hose. This is done so that you can put a jackstand under the oil pan and lift up the engine to make pulling out the waterpump possible...

    2 bolts and one nut...

I went ahead and lifted the assembly out and disconnected the hose so I could replace the thermostat....

I then removed the 2nd idler pulley...

Now remove the idler tensioner pulley. This bolt is reverse threaded...

and then removed the four 12mm bolts on the water pump pulley....

a tool like this will help hold the pulley so you can loosen the bolts...

Now use a jackstand under the oil pan to lift the engine up just enough for the waterpump to pull out. The pulley will have to stay on the waterpump and they will be pulled out together. Don't forget to put them back in together....

Here is what the bolt locations look like (10mm and 12mm bolts)....

You can easily put the bolts into the new waterpump as you remove them, then transfere them to the old one and install. This helps keep track of which bolt goes where...

Now just reassemble and fill up the cooling system. I hope this has shed some light of the process and helps you out. Remember that you can visit www.techinfo.toyota.com for the Factory Repair manual instructions.
