If you find yourself in need of replacing the starter on your 1999 Toyota Tacoma with the 4 cylinder 2RZ-FE engine, then this may help you.

The first thing you will want to do is disconnect the battery at the negative side cable...

The starter on this model/engine is located on the drivers side and can be seen through the wheel well protection flap....

You will want to disconnect the starter wire connector and the battery power cable located here...(just disconnect the wire and the cable held with a 12mm nut)

You will now locate and remove the two 14mm bolts holding the starter in.... This is the bottom bolt...

The top bolt is a bit hidden behind a harness and clip. Just remove the harness from the clip to give yourself some more room...

The starter can now be removed through the drivers side wheel well. It is a tight fit but will come out...
